Humble Valentines
One of the joys of working at Humble was that we had a fair amount of creative freedom.
When we were working with bigger partners, that was often not the case, but when we worked with indies, they usually let us do whatever we wanted to do to market a bundle.
Case and point: the Valentine’s Day bundle.
The concept, thrown together by one of our BizDev team members, was a bundle of games with a romantic element. Generally, these were “visual novels” that let you play as a character meeting other characters through text-based interactions and deciding what to say in response and who to woo.
These games were generally silly, such as the hugely successful “Hatoful Boyfriend” where you dated pigeons.
So what we did was take these games as inspirations for free valentines that people could print and distribute to friends (or lovers). Most of the lines played on the theme of the games, so if they make no sense to you, no worries, but they would’ve made sense to fans of the games.
The idea was a success! So much so, in fact, that one of the developers was inspired and even added their own valentines to the mix (I’ve shared the Facebook post below for that one since I wasn’t the one writing those valentines but did write the post)!
