Zulily
I accepted a freelance assignment at Zulily because I wanted to try writing for a new industry. In particular, I was interested in gaining experience in fashion writing.
Was it because I dreamed of being a fashion writer? Not exactly. The reason was more practical: I had seen several product description gigs that required fashion experience, and mine was minimal. Zulily, on the other hand, considered my daily deal experience as valuable as fashion writing experience. So I jumped at the chance to work for them and learn the terms of the trade: from “boatneck tops” to “ombré fabric.”
What I wasn’t expecting was to be assigned to the women’s fashion team, which I knew especially nothing about. So the gig required being a quick study, but I looked at it like solving a puzzle and soon learned the fashion lexicon through writing product and event descriptions.
